Why have you closed Lansdowne Road train station?
The closure of Lansdowne Road Station for the Republic of Ireland vs Demark game is being undertaken as a trial ahead of the hosting of four games at EURO 2020 at the Aviva Stadium next summer. The undertaking is necessary in order to examine: logistics, mobility, safety, security and stadium access. The matches at EURO 2020 will have different profiles, requirements, mobility patterns, and ticketing systems to a normal game at Aviva Stadium. It is expected that the countries participating in the EURO 2020 games in Dublin will bring a lot of supporters to the city, some of whom will not have tickets. Following reviews at UEFA Tournaments and Finals, UEFA’s recommendation would be to increase the area of the outer perimeter to avoid congestion in the area. The change in the access systems allows the Match Operations team to prevent ticketless supporters accessing the inner cordon of the stadium thus creating a safe environment and queuing system at the turnstiles and staying within the safe holding capacity of the approach roads to the turnstiles. Following this trial, a joint review will be undertaken in advance of EURO 2020.
